When it’s rainy outside on, especially on a weekend, we tend to hibernate, and stay in the house. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are times I love to play in the rain, but there are times we spend the day in the house, and have fun with numerous rainy day activities that just don’t involve electronics, and that are fun.

Board Games are great rainy day activities that are fun!
One of our favorite things to do as a family, whether rain or shine, night or day is play board games. This definitely doesn’t have to be a rainy day activity, but it is something to do when it rains. They keep us occupied for hours, and are pure fun.
There are tons of board game options out there, and they range in price. They don’t have to be pricey to be good.
I don’t always grab games that challenge my children mentally, but more oft than not, this is something I gravitate to.
Our Top Board Games:
- Clue
- Disney Beat the Parents (there are other versions, but this is the one we have).
- Scattergories
- Outburst
- 5 Second Rule
These are just a few that we love to play. If you have a toddler, there are several games available for toddlers that you can play. I like these games, because they even challenge my children (and even me) mentally, and it’s fun to watch them process.
Science Projects make great rainy day activities to keep your children happy.
Science projects are other rainy day activities we love, in particular, we love to make SLIME! My daughter has a page on here dedicated to her slime making, and a YouTube channel where she demonstrates how to make the slime.
She also has a video on there where she has made play dough. These are just a few of her projects she has on her channel.
Science projects can be inexpensive and quick. You can come up with all kinds of ideas, or you can get a lot of ideas from online. They are great ways to keep your children occupied on rainy days.
Create a masterpiece…
Artwork is a very popular craft idea in our house for rainy day activities.
This can get as messy as you wish. ? We simply get paper and washable paint, and paint away. Of course we paint on wood floors, because cleanup is a breeze. We love using June 1-30 10% off $25+ Order with SUNSHINE” data-wplink-url-error=”true”>Crayola’s (affiliate) paint, because we trust and know it’s truly washable.
Create whatever artwork your little one wishes. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Just keep them busy while they’re stuck in the house, and it’s kind of therapeutic.
I do have a confession…there are times we sit on the couch and watch Netflix. Check out our movie night traditions, on how we pull that off.
But on rainy days, we try and limit the screen time. So we choose to play board games, play around with ingredients to come up with science projects, or just paint away.
